Before their wedding, my daughter and her husband asked me to do a sunset with a lot of color. This is loosely based on a sunset I saw from my kitchen window. The back story is that when I was in junior high school, my art teacher gave us a watercolor assignment – a landscape with a house, bushes, walkway, sky, etc. I painted a sunset with purples, reds, oranges and yellows: as I had seen while camping out west with my family the previous summer. The teacher came up behind me, looked at the painting, said “no one has ever seen a sunset like that”, then took my painting to the sink and washed it off. When my daughter asked me for this, she specifically referenced that story, saying, “…like the one Mrs. Madia washed off.” So, a little bit of pay back. ha ha ha
